Family walk the walk
AN East Cheshire family are preparing to walk the walk to help their favourite charity.
The Newsome family from Macclesfield are taking part in the family-friendly Starlight Walk which is now in its sixth year.
The event has become one of East Cheshire Hospice’s flagship events, raising more than £45,000 last year with walkers enjoying the 100 acres of parkland at Capesthorne Hall.
Laura Newsome and her four children will be joined at the event on Friday, April 20, by her brothers Ashley and Adrian and sister-in-law, Claire Barker, for the third year in a row.
“There’s something quite special about the Starlight Walk,” said Laura whose father, Ian, died in hospice care in July 2015.
“It’s a fun evening out and also a special family-time to remember my dad.”
Also joining Laura will be her children Hattie, 11; Scarlett, six; Rueben, four and two-year-old Rhian along with their cousins Daisie, eight, and five-year-old Evie.
All of the family are now fundraising fans, with Daisie and Hattie helping to raise £370 for the charity by completing 60 lengths each at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.
Like Laura and her family, many of the participants will personalise the walk by placing a lantern or candle along ‘memory lane.’
As in previous years, walkers are able to choose their distance – 2.5k, 5k or 10k and everyone will receive a free specially designed T-shirt and a medal to mark the occasion.
Gates open for the event from 6pm. More info on registration at www.east cheshirehospice.org.uk/ starlightwalk18.
