95 retirement homes plan for Kings site

-

PLANS have been unveiled for 95 retirement apartments to be built on King’s Schools Coare Street site.

Developers have unveiled the plans for the town centre site with the school due to move to a new single site in Prestbury by 2020.

The scheme will focus on the newer part of the King’s site, on the corner of Westmister Road and Coare Street, which currently houses the school’s sixth form, a classroom block and gym.

The apartments are spe- cifically designed to support retired homeowners to live an active life whilst maintaining their independence.

McCarthy and Stone, which claims to be the UK’s leading retirement housebuilder, is seeking feedback from local residents on its proposal.

They say the development will also feature onsite car parking and professionally landscaped gardens.

People living at the completed site will have access to communal facilities such as a homeowners’ lounge, guest suite and lift access to all floors.

Among the plans are 60 ‘Retirement Living PLUS (Extra Care)’ apartments providing additional facilities such as the availability of 24-hour care provision, on-site restaurant and a laundry room.

A public exhibition of the plans will be held on Monday, July 23 between 3pm and 7pm at the Macclesfield Methodist Church, on Westminster Road.

Ian Wilkins, regional managing director for McCarthy and Stone North-West Region said: “I would encourage all local representatives and residents to attend the exhibition. We value the opinions of the local community and welcome all feedback. Our team recognise the rising demand for specialist retirement accommodation in Cheshire East and have spent time carefully researching the local area to ensure our proposal can complement its surroundings whilst meeting the needs of older people in Macclesfield.

“We are looking forward to discussing the proposals further with both local residents and representatives of the community.

“At the public exhibition members of our project team will be on hand to answer questions and listen to any feedback. Where possible, feedback received will be incorporated into the final designs of the proposal.”

The school was given the green light by Cheshire East council last year to sell three of its sites for housing in order to build a new school on farmland at Alderley Road, Prestbury.
