10,000 expected for Jodrell Bank festival

-

A RECORD 10,000 people are expected to attend this weekend’s Bluedot festival.

Organisers say that even larger crowds are expected at Jodrell Bank for the festival than the 8,000 people who attended last year’s event.

Bluedot, now in its third year, sees music combined with the sciences for a weekend of entertainment and learning.

Musical headliners this year are Flaming Lips, Future Islands and the Chemical Brothers while the Halle orchestra, Public Service Broadcasting and Gary Numan are also among the line-up.

On the science side, leading scientists and thinkers including Richard Dawkins, Jim Al-Khalili and Tim O’Brien will give talks.

David O’Doherty, Casetteboy and Rob Kemp are among the comedy offering.

Event organiser Ben Robinson told the Express that the festival is going from strength to strength and this year looks to set to be the best yet.

He said: “Music and science are very different worlds but they are coming together and they work together. This is a festival for people who are inquisitive and who wasn’t to know how things work.

“I think we have been able to create a community feel at the festival and people are not just there to be popular, they have sought it out and they want to be around people with similar interests.

He added: “This year’s line up is perfect for me, I grew up on guitar music and Flaming Lips are one of the best bands I have ever seen.”

Weekend tickets are still available, priced at £175 can be found on the website www. discoverthebluedot. com/tickets
