Runners feel the heat in charity run

-

RUNNERS braved the heat as they took part in an iconic charity race.

Now in its 14th year the Bollington Nostalgia Hill Race is one of the highlights of the town’s calendar and saw hundreds take part.

The event, which is organised by the Bridgend Centre saw almost 70 runners take on a 7.11mile route which sets off from the centre on Palmerston Street.

As well as the entry fee for the race, volunteers and staff sold refreshments on the day to raise money for the centre which acts as a community hub to support people in Bollington.

Runners from the newly-formed Bollington Harriers running club, Macclesfield Harriers and Wilmslow all took part in the event.

The money raised from the run will go to supporting the centre’s work to reach out to those in and around the Bollington community who are feeling isolated.

Anna Hatley has worked at the centre as a community worker for six years and said it was a great event and thanked all of the volunteers and runners to helped make it happen.

She said: “It was really lovely. I would really like to thank the volunteers for all of their hard work. There were so many different things they helped with from the 41 marshals to setting up for the event and putting down markers.

“It was fabulous and for the first time it was really hot, usually were are worrying about the mud. One of the great thing is that a lot of the runners gave donations on the day, which was a really nice thing to do.”

She added: “I was really proud of the fact that we had so many marshals and volunteers on the day.

“We got amazing feedback from the runners about the event as well. We had more than 40 marshals with many having helped at each event, and this is our 14th year so that’s pretty good going I think.”

Macclesfield MP David Rutley set the race off once again alongside the Mayor of Bollington, Coun Jon Weston.

As the centre’s patron, Mr Rutley says he is a strong supporter of the charity’s work.

He said events such as this are vital to allowing volunteers and staff at Bridgend Centre to carry on the important work they do in the local community.

Mr Rutley said: “I was delighted to once again set the runners off for the Bollington Nostalgia Hill Race.

“It was great to see the race remains as popular as ever, and I am grateful to everyone who took part for helping to raise funds for the vital work of the Bridgend Centre in supporting vulnerable people in our local communities.”
