Davidson triumphs at Charity Day

PRESTBURY Golf Club staged a Captain’s Charity Stableford competitio­n in aid of England & Wales Blind Golf.

Prestbury Captain Steve Williams was delighted to present a cheque for £800 to blind golfer Steve Beevers who had John Porter as his guide during his round.

They are all members of Wallasey Golf Club which is how they got to know each other and set up the charity day.

The competitio­n was won by James Davidson won with 46 points playing off a handicap of 13. In second was Simon Pooler with 41 points playing off 16 and in third place was Geoff Churchman who had 39 points playing off 12.

Prestbury’s men played a singles Stableford and in a close finish Craig Jones won a cpo on 38 points from Jeremiah Hayes with Josh Garside, Colin Fearns and William Kennedy a point off the pace.

In the accompanyi­ng Yellow Tee Stableford Graham Wagster led in with 41 points from Michael Hewitt 40.

Prestbury ladies played for Mr Captain’s prize and it was won by Jayne Harrison with 36 points from Angela Riordan and Jenny Purves, both 35 and Carole Ryder 34.

Alderley Edge ladies played a double-header medal for the June Bridgeston­e and a qualifier for the 2019 MDLGA Bunty Booth competitio­n.

Alison Roberts was on fire as she led in with 67 from Yvonne Grundy 71, Sue Kendrick 72 and Marion Hall and Jo McGregor,both 73.

In the accompanyi­ng 9-hole qualifier Helen Williams led in with 17 points.

Davenport’s men played for the Monza Trophy and in division one Peter Leary was a convincing winner on +4 from Nick Parker +2.

In division two Alan Worthingto­n also led in with +4 from Keith Brierley and John Sturmey, both +3 and in division three Max Lauder also posted +4 to finish one better than Jonathan Bowe and Peter Beckett.

Davenport ladies played over two days for the Lady Captain’s prize and Deborah Housley and Margie Forde set a hot pace on day one with 65’s.

In round two it was also close with Gwyneth Fielding winning a cpo on 68 from Christine Thwaites and Deirdre Newman.

But the overall winner was Margie Forde with 134 from Deborah Housley 135.

The Mottram Classic at Mottram Hall was won by Isabella Taylor-Stokes with a stunning 64 from Callum Hendry and club legend David Owen, both 67.

A Stableford at Shrigley Hall was won by Ray Haddock with 39 points, one more than Tim Wrigley and Callum Atkinson.

Chris Hudson shot a stunning 61 to win the Terry Evans prize medal at Styal to finish well clear of James Carter 67 and Eddie Pearson 68.

Styal Captain Mike Burchell was firmly in charge of a Sunday Stableford at Styal posting 38 points to edge out Steven Page 37 and Bob Scott 36.

The June Davenport Stableford at Styal was won by Wally Tibbitts with a fine haul of 42 points taking him home from Len Rowland 40 and Terry Hooper 39.

The latest round of the Styal Ladies Summer Cup was won by Pat Millatt after a cpo on 17 points with Yvonne Kelly , two more than Hilary Boyce.
