So far, so good insists Howarth
MACCLESFIELD Town joint assistant manager Neil Howarth has commended the players for the effort they have been putting in during pre-season so far.
Silkmen legend Howarth spent over five years at the Moss Rose in the 1990s, and he returned to the club last month as part of new manager Mark Yates’ coaching staff.
He’s enjoying his time back at the club, and has also thanked the players for the hard work they have displayed in recent weeks.
“It’s brilliant being back. It’s a friendly atmosphere and there is still a winning mentality here from last season. The lads have been receptive so it’s been great so far,” he told the club’s official website.
“On that first day when you come in there are always a few nerves, but I walked in and I remember people in the office so there are a lot of familiar faces, so that does help.
“All of the players have been brilliant over the last few weeks, especially considering the hot conditions we’ve had as it meant the pitches aren’t as soft as you’d like them to be.
“We’ve been putting in a lot of hard work and the attitude has been spot on.
“There is undoubtedly quality in there, and everything has gone to plan so far.”
Howarth was also pleased with the performance the players put in during their pre-season match with Stoke City last week.
“It was the perfect workout. It was a pleasure to go down and get looked after by Premier League quality players and to see them up close and to be able to match them for long periods of the game was really encouraging,” he said.
“It does take time to get your legs into match-pace so it was a really good workout for all of the players.”
