Prestbury edged in close contest

- BILL LIVESLEY

AFTER last week’s close match with Bredbury CC, Prestbury played host to Kingsley at the weekend,

New skipper Steve Oldfield won the toss and decided to bowl.

Kingsley got of to a solid start but Paul Butterworth looked lively and struck in the seventh over, having Stoddart caught by Ben McKeever.

Butterworth then got the other opener caught by Max Cowley Jones for 3.

Kingsley recovered to 53 before Butterworth stuck again, having Warman caught by keeper Oldfield.

Butterwotth then got rid of Ollier, caught at slip by Tom Livesley, but Lanza and Mullins took the score on to 127.

Mullins was bowled by Abi Biswas, then Cameron Graham had Lanza caught by Cowley Jones for 65, 129 for 6.

Prestbury didn’t get another wicket until the 43rd over when Graham snared Waring, caught by Cameron Kirkland.

Buterworth got his fifth wicket when Oldfield caught Lenegan for 37, Kingsley finishing on 185 for 8.

Prestbury wicket takers were Biswas, 1 for 65, Graham 2 for 33 and Butterworth 14 overs 5 for 58.

After tea, Prestbury openers Adam Philips and Stu Burnell started well, putting on 74 before Bur- nell was out for 46.

Unfortunately, this led to a mini collapse. Biswas (1) and Cowley Jones (0) fell cheaply, 78 for 3, but Graham and Philips took the score to 97.

Again, two wickets fell for one run – Graham for 15 and McKeever 0.

At 101 Philips’ patient innings came to an end when he was caught for 34 off 88 balls.

Oldfield and Livesley were the new batsmen but Livesley was out for two and this brought Dan Crosby – in for his first match of the season – and he and Oldfield took the score to 155 for 8, needing 26 off four overs.

Despite Oldfield being caught for 24, it was still game on.

But Kirkland was bowled for 8 and when Crosby was caught for 30 that left Butterworth (0 not out) with Prestbury all out for 170. They did have the consolation of having competed in all areas of the game.

Man of the match for Prestbury was Paul Butterworth.

Prestbury firsts are away at Disley on Saturday.

Pott Shrigley were inserted at Chapel and slowly made their way to 104 for 2, skipper Tom Fletcher scoring 82 of the 104 runs scored.

Wickets then fell quickly with Simon Howard 23 being second top score as only another eight runs came from the tail leaving Pott on 156 all out.

Chapel made light work of reaching their target. The openers Jack Gyte and Jamie Wood put on 87 and when the second wicket fell at 150 only seven runs were required for an overwhelming win for the home side.
