Matilda donates birthday presents

-

A SELFLESS act by a seven-year-old has raised £350 for East Cheshire Hospice.

Matilda Johnson asked her friends and family to donate money to the hospice instead of buying her birthday presents after visiting the Macclesfield venue over the summer.

Her grandmother, Madeline, 68, from Tytherington, had been a patient at the hospice and Matilda pledged to help raise some much-needed funds after seeing the work of the staff at the Hospice.

“Matilda is a very aware of the world around her and after witnessing at first hand the friendly atmosphere and amazing staff, she came away wanting to help,” says her father Rob. “At first she thought about donating her pocket-money but then came up with the idea of raising money instead of getting presents on her birthday.”

After the collection, Matilda, from Nottingham, said: “It makes me feel happy and kind”.

Community fundraiser at the hospice, Lisa Ball, said staff were very touched by Matilda’s kind gesture.

“There’s not many seven-year-olds who would forgo their birthday presents so we are very moved and extremely grateful for her kind act,” said Lisa. “We need to raise more than 80 per cent of our running costs each and every day and our patients rely on the kind support of people like Matilda to provide our specialist care.”
