Prescott edges tight win

PRESTBURY’S men were in Stableford action and in division one it needed a cpo on 39 points to see Martin Prescott home from Craig Barker and Charlie Cunningham.

It was also tight in division two with David Smyth winning a cpo on 39 points from Brian Leatherbar­row.

A Saturday Stableford for Prestbury ladies was led in by England star Bel Wardle with 37 points, one more than Caroline HarrisonCr­oft.

A ladies Quad Am at Prestbury saw Gill Mellor lead her team of Jenny Purves, L Aitchison and S Halpin to an unstoppabl­e 90 points.

AVRO’s men enjoyed an American Foursomes and none more than Mark Brooks and Neil Bryan who won with 39 points ahead of Ian Anderson and club legend Bob Collins, who won a cpo on 37 from three other pairs.

Macclesfie­ld ladies showed their adaptable skills in a Three Club and a Putter Stableford.

Jill Hunter-Blench was unphased as she posted 21 points to finish ahead of Val Fox 18 and Wendy Higgins and Kay Atkin, both 17.

A Stableford for Macc’s men was won at a canter by Paul Sayer with 42 points from Tony Gosling 38.

The first winter medal at Davenport had division one topped by Jim Dunn with an impressive 64 ahead of Ryan Beckett 67 and Paul Leach and David Bamford, both 68.

John Culley won a cpo on 65 from Laurie Chick top top division two and in division three Thomas Thoman raced home with a scorching 63.

A medal at Mottram Hall had Neil Duckworth going clickety click to finish clear of Graham Webb 68 and Daniel Edwards, Peter Draper and Stuart Fannan, all 69.

A medal for Shrigley Hall’s men had division one topped by Charlie Wood with 64 from club legend Brian Hopkins 65 and Eamon McGeady 69.
