No Brexit deal is as good as one we have

-

LET’S hope that third time around the big money spent on the Macclesfield Town Centre Strategy does not, yet again, disappear down the Cheshire East Magic Money Drain.

Let’s inject some common sense by giving the very expensive consultants a free hand to ditch both the Council’s absurd obsession with building on the popular and convenient Churchill Way Car Park and their new bright idea of building on part of Whalley Hayes, just when the new Picturedrome Food Hall will make it even more popular.

With Cinemac already screening popular films, an additional two or three screens is as much as a town this size can sustain. If the Police Station is to be relocated then that would be an excellent site for a cinema and other facilities. Jordangate car park is convenient and the adjacent Council employees’ car park could be utilised at evenings and considerably better than other north-west towns that lost traditional industries, for one major reason; AstraZeneca.

Pauses in investment easily lead to terminal decline as new equipment and new products make rival locations more profitable.

No Brexit deal is as good as the one we have. If we superimpose local economic decline upon a smaller national economy the consequences for Macclesfield could be dire. If the deal is endorsed by a People’s Vote then the consequences are down to the voters.

If not, then, Mr Rutley, the anger that will fester here and across the country as the economic adverse consequences of Brexit become more evident will bring down your party on a richly deserved and epic scale.

Because my country’s prosperity will go down the drain with you, it will give me no pleasure to say “I told you so”.
