‘Brilliant’ Cameron fits the bill for Silkmen

- SHELDAN KEAY

MACCLESFIELD Town joint-caretaker manager Danny Whitaker has heaped praise on new signing Nathan Cameron for his debut performance against MK Dons on Saturday.

While the Silkmen may have suffered a 2-0 defeat in the game, Whitaker was extremely pleased with Cameron, who joined Macclesfield last week on a deal until January.

The 26-year-old has played for the likes of Coventry City, Bury and Northampton Town during his career, and Whitaker hopes more players may join and perform as impressively as Cameron.

“He was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. It was his first competitive game this season, so he did more than enough to get minutes under his belt and he’s a proper footballer who reads the game well and he’s just what we need really,” he told the club’s official website.

“We have managed to get Cameron in which is brilliant, he is just the type of player we need, and we are looking out for more, but it is a bit of a gamble at this stage because are they going to be fit enough to slip right into our team? So, it might be a case of holding out until January and going for it then.”

Meanwhile, Macclesfield have paid tribute to photographer Peter Hilton after he stepped down from his role at the club after 10 years.

In a statement, the club said: “Macclesfield Town would like to convey our sincere thanks to Peter Hilton for his services to the club, after learning that he is to step down from his role as official photographer.

“Peter has provided high quality photography to the club for the last ten years and during that period, he has captured some of the most iconic images in our recent history.

“We would like to wish Peter all the very best in his future endeavours.”
