THERE has been Royal recognition for a Macclesfield sailor as he was given a volunteer award.
Stuart Campbell, commodore of Redesmere Sailing Club, was one of 57 people nationwide given the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) accolade.
It was presented by HRH The Princess Royal, president of the RYA.
Stuart joined the club 13 years ago after taking up sailing as a hobby while working abroad. At the time members were debating whether to change its location.
Following a consultation he came up with a 10-year plan to develop the current location in Capesthorne, which included dredging the lake, extending the club’s grounds and improving its fleet of boats.
He has been overseeing this work as well as introducing and leading winter working parties.
At the same time there has been development of sailing activities and this helped Redesmere to become RYA club of the year in 2016.
