THIS was an outstanding win by the team, scoring seven tries in the process. Captain Ryan Brown was the scorer of two, using his natural pace and kicked a conversion, was delighted. This was a second successive win for the side.

A full 15 players started the game and with a complete bench making sure of rotations, it was an open, fast moving match and Macclesfield, fielding a strong, heavy pack of forwards, did not lack for mobility because the back row of Matt Price, Scott Goodfellow and Simon Street covered the ground brilliantly.

Even when down to 14 due to a debatable yellow card holes were not apparant in their defence.

Matt Coley was a guest in the boiler room, he was visiting Macclesfield for the weekend fitted in seamlessly, teaming up with Rob McLeod to add power behind the front row of Mike Dale, Rupert Dixon and Geoff Chan.

With this set of forwards set piece possession was guaranteed and they achieved a great deal of turnover ball in the loose.

There was plenty of speed in the backs, Nick Smith at scrum half teamed well with Ben Higginbotham to become Ben’s third half back partner in three outings. These two passed the ball sweetly to Pat Ellis and Paul Smith so Alfie Wright and Guillaume Janine had acres of space on the wings.

Players off the bench were Richard Hogg, Troy Crocker, Jeremy Bostock and Matt Price’s father Craig, somewhat jetlagged having only returned from China on Friday evening. They all made significant contributions.

Tries were scored by Bostock, Ellis and McLeod with Joel Williamson scoring two.

There’s no fixture for the side next week.
