Green brings the sunshine to Styal

THE latest Manchester Alliance fixture was again blessed with excellent weather, keeping up the excellent record of Alliance Captain Dave ‘Sunny’ Green and a full field enjoyed the revamped Styal course that was in great condition.

It was tight in the individual pro section with Chorley pro Mark Bradley, enjoying a rare win with great pleasure and delight, leading in with 39 points, one more than Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Craig Corrigan.

Penwortham’s Ryan O’Neill also posted 38 points to win the assistant pro’s prize.

It was also tight in the pro am section with the Leigh family duo of Sean and Mark Blinkhorn winning a cpo on 44 points from Ryan O’Neill and Martin Packingham (Wigan), one more than Craig Corrigan and Chris Ireland (Lymm).

Stamford’s Paul Traynor and Richard Margrave were clear winners of the am am section with 44 points ahead of Mike Fenton and Andy Hall (Chorlton) 42 and home duo Harry Reid and Paul Jones 41.

The prizes were presented by Styal member Alan Bullock of Bullocks Coaches who has been a staunch supporter of Alliance events.

Macclesfie­ld ladies completed their summer season with a singles Stableford and Wendy Higgins won her fourth competitio­n of the season posting 35 points to finish ahead of Kay Atkin and Myra Clark with Wendy and Myra posting the only birdies on the day.

The Wyn Palin Stableford for Macc ladies was won by Marlene Connor with 34 points from Judy Mutter 33 and Jenny HineGlover 32.

The Captain’s Masters for Macc’s men was led in by Mark Hillaby with 67 from Chris Priestley 67 and Mark Hodson 68.

A 9-hole Stableford at Alderley Edge was won at a canter by Tom Ricketts with 20 points.

It was also very comfortabl­e for T Broomhall and Celia Brent in a BB Stableford for Edge’s ladies as they posted an impressive 40 points, six more than B Evans and Y Grundy.

The Men’s medal final at Davenport had the divisions topped by Chris Massey 67, Nigel Potts 71 and Winston DudleyBrow­n 74.

Davenport ladies played a 14-hole Stableford and Sue Banfield led in with 29 points, two more than Madeleine Kingham and Liz Southern.

A Texas Scramble at Mottram Hall was won with 58.7 by the fab four of J Hanson, S Lynch, J Swann and D Swindells from B Poynts, N Mohamed, S Mirza and D Owen 60.0.

Thursday Stableford action at Shrigley Hall had Gill Kershaw out on her own with 40 points from Will Osbaldesto­n 37 and Peter Whitehurst 26.

The fifth round of the Winter Pairs at Shrigley was won by E McGeady and G Nimmo with 46 points, two more than J and D Henshaw and G and G Bresnahan.

The third Seniors Winter League Stableford at Styal needed a cpo on 39 points to see Gordon Hamilton into top spot from Peter Robins, one more than Harry Reid.

Par action for Styal’s men had division one led in by Jeffrey Chadwick on +3 from Nick Gillings +2.

In division two Andy Jones was the only one to beat par on +1from Neil Brownhills and Steven Fenn, both -1.

A Sunday Stableford at Styal was won by Peter Mendes with 39 points, four more than Tony Nabarro, Jeffrey Chadwick, Ken Bristowe and David Graham-Jones. Styal ladies played a singles Stableford and it was won by Helen Billington with 36 points from Kath Goodall 34 and Aileen Holohan 33.

AVRO golfers enjoyed playing in North Wales over two days and in the Rhuddlan Stableford Chris Robinson led in with 37 points from Alan Brandwood 46 and Vic Tarr and Dave Pierce, both 35.

The following day at Abergele, Stephen Callaghan was out on his own with 39 points, well clear of Peter Walker 34 and Neil Flood 33.
