Second victory boosts belief

-

MACCLESFIELD Town caretaker manager Danny Whitaker admits his side have been given a massive confidence boost after their 1-0 win at home to Yeovil Town on Saturday.

Michael Rose’s second half penalty was enough to earn the Silkmen all three points at the Moss Rose, giving them just their second league win of the campaign. Despite the victory, they remain bottom of the League Two table and seven points from safety, having taken 10 points from their 19 games so far.

As the Express went to print, Macc were set to make the trip to St James’ Park for a difficult away game against Exeter City, and Whitaker was hoping his players will build on Saturday’s victory.

“Any win gives you confidence, but because of the situation we’re in, picking up a win like this gives us a massive boost,” he said. “The result was fantastic. The lads were brilliant from start to finish and we got our just rewards.

“We’re getting our better players back now like Elliott Durrell, Ryan Lloyd and myself, so we can only get better.

“When you’re in the situation that we’re in and you score a goal quite late on then it’s a nice feeling, but you’ve got to work even harder to keep that lead and protect it, and the lads did that brilliantly.”
