Firefighters battle blaze for 10 hours
MORE than 20 firefighters tackled a house blaze that left a man needing hospital treatment.
An investigation has now been launched into the fire at a home on Hulley Place, Macclesfield, in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.
Crews arrived to find the man had escaped from the house but he was taken to hospital suffering the effects of smoke inhalation. The blaze caused extensive damage to the first floor and roof space of the terraced property.
The man had run to nearby chip shop Spring Garden and asked the owner to dial 999.
The shop owner said: “The guy from the house hammered on the door to say there was a fire and could I call the fire brigade.
“He was alright but had taken on a few smoke fumes and from the state of the house I don’t think he will be coming back, it is extensively damaged.
“The fire was fairly substantial, it had taken proper hold by the time the fire brigade arrived.”
Firefighters from Macclesfield, Bollington, Poynton and Offerton stations as well as the aerial ladder platform from Lymm were called shortly before 1am.
Police also attended to help with traffic management although it is not known whether the cause of the fire is suspicious or not and the cause has not yet been determined.
According to Cheshire Fire Service, damping down of the fire was still taking place on Wednesday morning before the investigation into the cause could begin.
At its height, crews used two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one covering jet and a 13.5m ladder to battle the blaze.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said: “All occupants were accounted for. One casualty was transported to hospital with smoke inhalation.
“Firefighers established a water supply and a cordon was set up and a road was closed as emergency services worked at the scene.
“They did not go into the house that had been on fire due to structural concerns as a result of the fire.”
Firefighters were at the scene for more than 10 hours.
The North West Ambulance service confirmed it had attended.
A spokesman said that one man had been taken to Macclesfield District General Hospital but had been conscious and breathing.
