Silkmen fans eye legend as Sol’s no. two

Macclesfield Express - - DANGER DRIVER IS FACING JAIL OVER MUSICIAN’S DEATH -

MACCLESFIELD Town fans are excited about the arrival of Sol Campbell and would love to see him paired with club legend Danny Whitaker as assistant.

Andy Worth, chairman of the Silkmen Supporters Trust, says the new boss’ playing pedigree helps ease concerns about his lack of previous managerial experience.

He says Sol - who has 73 England caps - could be able to attract the type of players to help Macc climb League Two in the January transfer window.

And he believes club legend Danny Whitaker, who was in temporary charge following Mary Yates’ departure, is the ideal choice to help the former Arsenal player navigate the lower leagues.

Andy said: “The fans welcome Sol, he comes with an impeccable pedigree as a footballer.

“It is great to see Macclesfield Town continue to buck the trend in their willingness to appoint managers from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds as they did with Paul Ince and Keith Alexander.

“Many fans believe that Danny Whitaker should be given the assistant role as we started to see results and performances pick up under him and he knows lower league football,” he added.
