Young skaters shine at competitive event

YOUNG skaters got a taste of competitive action and put on an impressive show.

A team of ten from Macclesfield Artistic Roller Skating Club took part in the Bolton Festival of Exhibition Skating alongside hundreds of other hopefuls.

The team included Thomas Harper, Mabel Padkin, Deborah Sidebottom, Flavie Gordobil, Emma White, Elitsa Ivanova-Archer, Lauren Harper, Rhea Archer, Ruby Quinn and Efa Bridge.

They competed against skaters from clubs covering an area from Staffordshire to Durham in the two-day festival at Smthills School.

Among the events the youngsters took on were solo dance (waltz and tango), free dance, set sequence and duo freestyle.

Caroline Harper, from the club, said: “Considering this was their first experience of a big, regional event, all of our skaters performed brilliantly and some were awarded medals and trophies.

“All of the skaters worked extremely hard to prepare for the festival despite being the smallest club there. We had a great team spirit throughout the weekend.” Macclesfield Artistic Roller Skating Club
