Allotment fire started by wood burner left in shed

-

THREE fire engines were called to a blaze at allotments started by a wood burner that was left in a shed.

Crews used two jets and a hose reel to extinguish the fire at allotments off Laburnum Road, Macclesfield, on Friday evening.

No one was hurt but the blaze had spread to three sheds and caused substantial damage.

John Jarvis, from the allotment, said: “Someone’s shed caught fire but it was confined to one allotment.”

Two fire crews from Macclesfield and one from Bollington were called shortly before 6.45pm.

At the allotments there are 47 plots.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The fire had spread to three sheds and crews used two main jets and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“The fire is believed to have been started by a wood burner in one of the sheds. Crews were at the scene for three hours.”

Firefighters were also called to a flat on Archer Close, Bollington, on Sunday morning when a washing machine caught fire. The blaze was extinguished and one casualty treated for smoke inhalation.
