BIG PICTURE
PM’S DEAL WILL TIE US TO EU
THE Prime Minister repeatedly claims the EU withdrawal agreement meets the Referendum outcome of June 2016.
The reality is that the withdrawal agreement will tie us to a future within the EU with considerably less rights than we have in present circumstances. The political declaration (an addition to the withdrawal agreement) sets out discussions for future relations.
The political declaration offers much ‘waffle’. For example: that negotiations should be within ‘the parameters of an ambitious, broad, deep and flexible partnership’. Cynically it provides for extensive discussion and delay in the setting of the UK’s position.
A conclusion from the above is that the EU negotiators have set a massive elephant trap. And if accepted it will mean UK subordinate status subject to the whims of the EU. Parliament should reject the non-democratic bribe ‘this is the best we can get’. John Kennedy Tytherington
