Family devastated after daughter, 22, dies in bus crash

- ALEX SCAPENS

THE devastated family of a ‘beautiful’ young woman who died in a car crash has paid tribute to her.

Alexandra Ross was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened on the A537 Chelford Road, Henbury, on Thursday afternoon.

The 22-year-old, from Macclesfield, had been driving a red Ford Ka that collided with a bus shortly before 1.40pm.

Police, firefighters and the Air Ambulance were called to the scene and fire crews attempted to cut Ms Ross from the car.

In the aftermath of the tragedy Henbury Parish Council has highlighted the A537 as a dangerous road were action needs to be taken to improve safety.

And Ms Ross’s family, who are being supported by specially trained officers, paid tribute to her.

They said: “Alex was our beautiful kind daughter, a loved sister and granddaughter.

“We are all heartbroken. She was loved by everyone who knew her and will be truly missed.”

Deborah Sefton, from the NSPCC said: “Over the years a truly remarkable group of women have been recognised by the committee and much needed funds have been raised for the NSPCC too.

“Thanks to their generosity, we will be able to reach even more vulnerable children when they need us the most – whether it’s through Childline, in schools or one of our centres.”

Alex’s sister Bethany added: “Not only my sister, but my soul mate. I was so lucky to be a part of Alex’s life and she will go on with me for the rest of mine in spirit.”

Following the crash five people on the bus suffered minor injuries and the A537 was shut in both directions between Broken Cross and Monks Heath.

Police are now investigating the accident and have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage from other vehicles.

Although the cause of the crash has yet to be established calls have been made to make the long, straight section of the A537 safer.

Henbury Parish Council has requested all of it from Broken Cross to Monks Heath be given a 30mph speed limit.

And Councillor Richard Slater says that traffic from large housing developments given planning permission off the A537 are adding to the danger.

He said: “We are saddened to hear about another fatal accident in a short period of time on the A537.

“Henbury Parish Council continues to be concerned about this dangerous road.

“We have highlighted our concerns to Cheshire East Council’s highways (department) but feel they are falling on deaf ears.”

Cheshire East Council have been asked for a comment.
