Bundle of joy just in time for new year
THE last baby to be born in Macclesfield in 2018 arrived just in time to see in the New Year - but was four weeks early.
Skye Tompkins was delivered at Macclesfield General Hospital on New Year’s Eve at 7.47pm.
Proud parents Aimee Lines, 27, and Rory Tompkins, 32, knew she would arrive early but were unsure when, so had been backwards and forwards to hospital over the festive season.
They managed a Christmas at home but had to put their New Year celebrations on hold, with mum and daughter remaining in hospital for several days into 2019.
Aimee, of Brynton Road, Macclesfield, said: “It is quite special for her to be the last one of the year but we wanted to avoid Christmas and New Year.
“Skye does now share a birthday with Rory’s nana and my best friend, so although there were no New Year celebrations this year there should be some good ones in future.”
The couple had been warned that Skye, who was born weighing 6lb 8oz, was going to arrive prematurely.
And there were complications with the birth, such as her having low blood sugar levels and her umbilical cord round her neck.
This meant she was kept in hospital longer to be monitored but is reported to be recovering well.
Her brother Max, now six, was also born early.
Aimee said: “I have been quite shell-shocked and tired but it has been exciting and I am recovering. I’m still kind of in disbelief that she is here.
“I can’t wait to have a glass of red wine.”
Rory added: “Skye was a bit premature so she is being monitored but she is doing OK.”
