Grimsby can’t come quickly enough: Jared

-

MACCLESFIELD Town defender Jared Hodgkiss admits he wanted to play again as soon as possible to try and avenge his side’s 2-1 defeat to Swindon Town on Saturday.

The Silkmen conceded a late goal in the match at the Moss Rose to suffer an agonising loss, with Jak McCourt getting the winner for the visitors in stoppage time. Macc will now look to put that result behind them when they make the trip to Grimsby Town on Saturday.

“When you lose you just want to play the next game as quick as possible and we have to wait a week for that now, but it will be good for the gaffer and the physio, and a few of the lads who will be able to rest up,” he told the club’s official website.

“We put in a good shift over Christmas and to lose in the way that we did is so frustrating. A draw would have been the fair result, but obviously it wasn’t to be.

“Noone means to miss the target or miss chances, but if we go into half-time 2-0 up then they’ve got to come onto us and maybe we can counter-attack them. It was a tough one to take.”

The match against Swindon saw Hodgkiss making his first appearance for Macclesfield since an away game against Milton Keynes Dons in November, and while the game may have ended in defeat, he was taking the positives from the afternoon.

“It was hard work, but it’s nice to have been back out on the pitch. You can’t beat playing football for a living. It’s the best job in the world,” he said. “It’s relentless. You need to watch what you eat and watch what you drink. You are in everyday, getting your massages if you’re playing, and if you’re not playing then you’re doing all you can to keep fitness up, but that’s what makes English football, so I can’t complain.”
