Rail bosses vow services from station will improve

-

RAIL bosses have offered assurances that train services from Macclesfield station will improve.

Chris Jackson, a regional director from Northern Railway, says the company has asked that the 6am service to Stoke-on-Trent be reinstated from December.

The request has been made to Network Railway and the train would also call at Congleton and Kidsgrove.

Mr Jackson apologised for the delays and inconvenience caused by the introduction of a new timetable last May and says ‘greater strategic oversight’ is in place to avoid a repeat this year.

There are also plans to refurbish all 243 Northern Railway trains by 2020 with new seats, customer information screens, wifi and USB sockets

The news came at a meeting with Macclesfield MP David Rutley.

After the meeting Mr Rutley said: “I am grateful to Mr Jackson for providing an update on these important issues for passengers in our communities.

“Local residents experienced significant disruption last year and it is essential that lessons are learned from this, and so I am pleased to have received assurances that plans are in place to ensure that timetable changes this month will go ahead smoothly.

“I will continue to press Northern Railway for additional investment in local services and stations going forward.”

Recent investment includes two refurbished waiting rooms at Prestbury station, CCTV at Adlington station and repairs to the dry stone wall at Disley station car park.
