Shoppers feel the force as Star visitors drop in
VISITORS from a galaxy far, far away came to Macclesfield town centre to celebrate Star Wars Day.
Characters from the films - including Darth Vader, Princess Leia and Stormtroopers - met shoppers and posed for pictures with thrilled fans.
The visit was organised by Macclesfield Town Council with shops joining in the fun too and around 2,000 people coming into the town.
Armageddon Tattoo Studio on Mill Street, donated the proceeds from anyone having a Star Wars tattoo on the day to East Cheshire Hospice.
Yvonne Lennard, shop manager, said: “All the
staff at Armageddon were thrilled with the turn out for the day and are immensely grateful to the customers who donated time, skin and money to East Cheshire Hospice.
“There is always a noticeable increase in the number of visitors to the town on days such as May the Fourth.
“And it is great that the town council recognise the importance of investing in fun, inclusive days such as these, especially with characters as universally appealing and recognisable as the imperial icons.”
Liz Blaydon brought her son Jack along to see the Star Wars characters.
She said: “It was a wonderful day.
“A memorable day doesn’t even go far enough to describe how amazing it was for Jack.”
Helena Gowler, community engagement and events officer for Macclesfield Town Council said: “Bringing a bit of the dark side to the town was popular last year when we held it on the Friday.
“But with it falling on the Saturday this year, a lot more people were able to come along and enjoy it.
“We have really enjoyed seeing everyone’s photographs being shared on social media.
“Star Wars Day will return to Macclesfield in 2020.”
