Clean crew springs into action on canal
ASTRETCH of the Ma c c l e s f i e l d Canal has been made all clean and shipshape after a real team effort.
Members of the Macclesfield and District
Canoe Club, Macclesfield Canal Society, and the Canal and River Trust took part in a tidy and clean-up of the area.
Volunteers focused on a section of the waterway around Adelphi Mill, in Bollington, where the canoe club is based.
They took to the water in kayaks and boats, using nets to fish out the debris and gathering litter from the towpath.
Waste including tyres, plastic, and even a metal drum was retrieved as well as natural debris such as tree branches.
It was all part of the Great British Spring Clean 2019.
A stretch of around three and a half miles was cleaned and Macclesfield MP David Rutley also came along to help.
He said: “The Great British Spring Clean is a great opportunity to make a positive difference in our local towns and villages, and build community spirit at the same time.
“I am grateful to all the local groups and volunteers who took part in cleaning up the Macclesfield Canal, and helping to make it a better environment for all to enjoy.”
