Alex takes on leading role

-

A SELF-HELP group for people who are retired or semi-retired has a new figurehead.

Macclesfield U3A held its annual general meeting at Calvary Hall and welcomed the new chairman, Alec Johnston.

An active member of the group for years, he has taken over from Steve Fry, who had held the position for three years.

Also appointed at the meeting was Linda Battaglia as vice chairman.

Alec told the meeting: “I’m fortunate to be joining a very experienced and successful U3A team which has helped Macclesfield U3A grow to providing over 40 social, activity and educational groups to nearly 500 members in the local area.

“Huge thanks must go to the army of volunteers who run all our groups and social occasions.”

Members met at Calvary Hall, on Merebrook Road, on the fourth Thursday of every month except July and August. Coffee is served from 10am.

Non members are welcome to come along for coffee and a chat followed by an interesting presentation.

At the May’s meeting there will be a talk by Robert Wood titled ‘The Science and Mysteries Surrounding Gemstones and Crystals’.
