Langley maintain hold over Bredbury St Marks

- DAVID FRAME

LANGLEY 1st XI travelled to Bredbury St Marks on Saturday looking to add to their two previous victories in the league this season.

Langley skipper Al Berzins lost the toss and Langley were put in to bat. They made a terrible start losing both openers in the first 3 overs, Robin Smith tickled one down the leg side for a Golden Duck and Paully Morgan (1) was clean bowled by Foster.

Olly Wheelton and Chris Pattison started to rebuild the Langley innings punishing anything loose before Wheelton (25) was adjudged LBW to one that shot along the floor. Langley’s middle order then counter attacked as Bredbury brought on the spinners, Pattison (36) was bowled by Bredbury Skipper Matt Asher, Tyler was also bowled for a fine 73 and Neil Pennington scored a quick 34. The openers then came back on and bowled Langley out for 202 after 41 overs.

In response Bredbury lost opener Will Mairs (0) in the 4th over LBW to Al Berzins when he finally managed to get one straight, two caught and bowled followed in quick succession, one for Cartwright, Carr (14) and one for Berzins, Rodney (1). The introduction of Betteridge and Turner, who has re-joined Langley after a year away, saw Langley tear through the Bredbury batting line up bowling them out for 72. Only Keyworth who top scored with 46 offered any resistance.

The wickets for Langley were taken by Turner (4-16), Betteridge (3-14), Berzins (2-26) and Cartwright (1-14).
