ing for the home side and kept things very tight but struggled to make the breakthrough until Key bowled Kris Dickinson for 23.

However, Urmston fought back through Espley and Watson who looked steady in looking to score risk free where they could.

The pair shared a partnership of 61 before the Jack Massey had Watson caught for 36.

Soon after, Espley was also dismissed, this time by Barney Cutbill to an LBW decision.

At 101- 3 both sides knew that the scoring of Urmston’s middle order would be critical.

However it was the home side who looked to pile on the pressure with tight bowling from Massey and Cutbill who both took a further two wickets each to bring Urmston to 121-7.

The Urmston tail knew they had to score some runs to bring their team to a defendable total. Chris Scott was joined by Matt Kilcourse after Massey took his 4th wicket of the afternoon and the pair batted well at just under a run a ball (Scott 22* and Kilcourse 18*) to bring Urmston’s total to 162-8.

In chase of Urmston’s first innings total, Macclesfield opened with Dan Isherwood and James Coombes who batted well together, being positive in looking to score where they could.

An opening stand of around the 50 mark gave the home side a strong foundation.

This partnership was broken when Isherwood was bowled by Kilcourse for 20 and the Coombes was joined at the crease by Fin McCance.

The pair continued their steady progress until Coombes was dismissed, LBW, off the bowling of Ritesh Shetty for a well made 34.

A hobbling John Birchall was Macclesfield’s number 4 and looked to add impetus but he was caught for 18.

Alex Griffiths was the next man in and batted well around McCance who brought his half century before being bowled by Josh Espley.

Chris France joined Griffiths at the crease and the pair saw Macclesfield home to a 6 wicket win in the 37th over.

A maximum 25 points for the home side ( Urmston 5ponits) and the 2nd XI remain top of the division 1 table.

Next weekend they travel to Brooklands.

The Macclesfield 3rd XI entertained Hawk Green and after posting an under par score of 155 all out (top scorer Adnan Khan with 35) had to work hard for victory.

The visitors were going well with only one wicket down for 70 but the experience of Steve Whitingham (6 wickets) and Tony Moores (4 wickets) took the home side to a 37 run win to go top of their division.

On Sunday the 4th XI came back from Woodley with a win so all in all a satisfactory weekend for the club with 3 wins and a draw.
