Latest United signing Frankie achieves dream

- ALEX SCAPENS

IT’S been a disappointing season for Manchester United but they may just have made a summer signing that will turn things round - a nineyear-old schoolgirl from Macclesfield.

Frankie Treanor, of East Park Road, on the Moss Estate, has signed a contract to play for the Red Devils’ female under10 team for the 2019-20 season.

She was spotted playing as a left winger for Tytherington Juniors, who she

has been with for four years, but has had to leave under the terms of her contract.

Proud dad Gareth said: “It has been overwhelming for her. I don’t think it has fully hit home yet, but she is ecstatic.

“She has played with a ball since she was three, even when she started nursery she always had a ball at her feet, all she wants to do is play football.

“Frankie is a team player, she is very vocal and always puts in 110 per cent. She is strong both physically and mentally, has quick feet and loves scoring goals.”

The dream for Frankie, whose favourite player is Marcus Rashford, is to be a professional footballer for Manchester United women’s team.

She attends Ivy Bank Primary School, where she often attends homework clubs to catch up on any work she may have missed.

Recently Frankie was part of the school’s team that won the Reliant Sevens Cup.

Her other hobbies include singing and dancing, although these have had to take a back seat because of football commitments.

Frankie lives with Gareth, 37, who was a coach at Tytherington Juniors and her mum Louise.

He said: “It is a massive opportunity and Frankie is very headstrong she knows where she wants to go and she wants to be a professional footballer.

“Tytherington have been a big help and she is sad to be leaving them but you have to take your opportunities when they come along.”
