Popular race to return

-

THIS September it’s time for Macclesfield to get its running shoes on once again.

The annual Macclesfield half marathon has grown legs and expanded this year to include not only the famous half marathon, 5k race and fun run but also a new 10k event.

The 10k race has been added by popular demand, with local runners looking for that step up from 5km events. The popularity of Macclesfield parkrun on Saturday mornings in South Park and junior parkrun on Sundays in Victoria Park has shown the great appetite for running in Macclesfield – whether for health or for a fantastic sense of achievement from a challenge. The annual event has been renamed “Run Macc Fest” to show it is a festival of running. All four events will include the traditional finish on the track to cheering crowds, easy-to-follow courses and a medal to all finishers.

This year there will be support from local music groups along the course so no need to bring your own music as the beat will take you along.

Last year over 1,000 runners took part in the 3 races and this year with 4 races on offer the target is to exceed that number.

Mandy Calvert, Race Organiser, says: “Run Macc Fest is open to everyone, and has a race for everyone! Whether it is a Fun Run or even our challenging Half Marathon - come along and join the biggest community event in Macclesfield.”

The event is run by volunteers from Macclesfield Harriers and all race proceeds go to charity. Last year the event donated over £11,000 to local Macclesfield charities.

This year the charities are Just Drop In, The Rossendale Trust, Cre-8, and Friends for Leisure.

The event will be held on the morning of Sunday 22 September, with all races starting at Macclesfield Leisure Centre. There will be ample parking available close by and refreshments will available at the track including the famous cakes for runners and supporters.

There will be prizes for the fastest runners by age category and also for the fastest school and Community challenge teams. All runners will get a medal and some treats to take home.

So, lace up those running shoes (or trainers) and get signed up, there is a race for you!
