Prestbury memorial match for tragic pair

PRESTBURY CC held a memorial match against Alsager for Abdullah Waseem and Wajid Ahmed, who tragically lost their lives last year.

Abdullah had been at Prestbury for six years and a trophy was donated for what will become an annual event.

Alsager batted first and made 109 all out of their allocated 21 overs.

Leading Prestbury wicket takers were Chris Hall, 2 for 1 and Cameron Kirkland, 3 for 5.

Prestbury reached their target in the 17th over with top scorer Toqeer on 39.

The photograph shows the two teams all round a bench kindly donated by Bee Spoke Carpentry and also thank you to Olympus Trophies for donating the trophy engraving.

It has been a busy week at the club – on Tuesday the seconds played Mossley CC in the 20/20 Cup.

Prestbury posted 209 for 2 off 20 overs with Andy Scott 109 not out, Mossley made 114 for 6 off 20 overs in reply.

The first team travelled to Bredbury St Marks on Saturday, won the toss and batted but lost two wickets in the first over – Ed Bourke 0, and Aqeel Ahmed 0.

With the score on 16 George Brindley was out for 6.

Prestbury captain Steve Oldfield and Stu Costello steadily built a partnershi­p but with the score on 50 Costello was out for 12.

Chris Hall hit two fours but fell and soon Oldfield was out for 28.

Prestbury were struggling against good, tight bowling and wickets fell regularly – Cam kirkland 0, Rag 10, Ross Elliot 0 , Alex Insley 0 – leaving Max Cowling Jones 6 not out.

Prestbury were all out for 82 in 25 overs, so after tea they needed early wickets.

With 12 runs on the board Bredbury lost their first wicket when Bourke had Rodney caught by Ahmed.

The next wicket fell at 36, Bourke having Asher caught by Brindley for 12.

Five runs later Hall got opener Carr lbw for 24, but that would be the last wicket Prestbury took as Bredbury reached 84 in the 16th over.

Prestbury play the return fixture on Saturday.
