Firm plans to turn ex-Liberal club in to flats
IF the General Election has ignited your passion for politics then how about moving into a former Liberal Club?
Permission was given back in 2017 to convert what was once the New Liberal Club, on Boden Street, Macclesfield, into six one-bed apartments.
The building remains empty but now another applicant - Aneto Properties - has applied for new permission, this time for nine one-bed homes.
Units would be split equally between the club’s three storeys with the basement used for storage.
But the proposed two car parking spaces with the development falls below the Cheshire East Council standard.
A report by consultants Emery Planning, submitted with the new application, says: “The principle of converting the existing building into residential use has already been accepted through the extant planning permission for six apartments.
“The proposal for conversion to create nine apartments would make efficient use of an existing building on previously developed land within a highly sustainable location.
“There would also be no harm to the amenity of neighbouring properties; indeed, there would be a positive benefit.”
The report says that two parking spaces for nine flats would be sufficient in this case because of the ‘highly sustainable location reducing reliance on the need for cars’.
It states Macclesfield train station and a bus station are within 150m of the site and shops are within walking distance.
Consultation on the plans is open until December 18 with a decision expected early next year.
The applicant for the previous proposal of six homes was Summit Living.
