Employers offer fair gains

-

MORE than 46 businesses and organisations showcased what they had to offer as employers at the Macclesfield Pledge Careers and Education Fair.

The event, now in its fourth year, was held at Macclesfield College and more than 1,000 students visited to take a look.

It was organised by the Local Enterprise Partnership for Cheshire and Warrington.

A speed networking approach was piloted this year as well as a ‘passport’ scheme where exhibitors could issue a stamp to show a positive level of engagement.

McCann Health provided a prize of £200 in Amazon vouchers for the school with the most stamps.

Data will be passed to schools to show what subjects were most of interest to support curriculum development.

Georgina Mills, from the Macclesfield Pledge, arm of the local enterprise partnership (LEP), said: “It’s fantastic to see the high levels of engagement from schools and local businesses.

“I look forward to continuing to work with them on this important agenda.”

Clare Hayward, from the LEP employer skills and education board, said: “We are focused on inspiring young people across Cheshire.

“By bringing schools and employers together, conversations begin, awareness is increased and young people start to explore the variety of career opportunities open to them.

“This careers fair and innovative speed networking has helped over 1,000 young people to connect directly with employers.

“We are delighted that everyone is keen to connect.”
