Flipping great fun at race day

- ALEX SCAPENS

WET conditions couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm at the annual Macclesfield Pancake Races.

The event took place at Macclesfield Market Place on Shrove Tuesday, February 25.

Teams were able to wear fancy dress with costumes including Superman and Mexican bandits.

Pans and pancakes were provided for entrants and the Rotary Club of Macclesfield Castle helped steward the event.

As well as the glory of winning and the fun of taking part, the event was also about raising money for charity.

Beneficiaries this year were the hospital and community healthcare charity ECHO. Its members want to raise £45,000 for a new wheelchair accessible discharge mini-bus.

Money from the pancake races will go to this campaign.

Julie Green, from East Cheshire NHS Trust, said: “The discharge bus is essential ilf for the h ongoing i health and wellbeing of our patients when they are ready to go home.”
