‘Minority’ of Silkmen fans in racism report
MACCLESFIELD Town have condemned a
‘very small minority’ of fans who have been reported to anti-racism group Kick it Out.
The club has issued a strongly-worded statement saying the supporters in question ‘let the club down’ during Saturday’s away defeat at Crewe Alexandra.
And though the Silkmen say the vast majority of fans behaved impeccably they those who did not face sanctions including a ban from games and potential criminal proceedings.
The club has also appealed for information about the group in question.
Campaign group Kick It Out – English football’s equality and inclusion organisation – informed club bosses of the report.
The statement said: “Macclesfield Town are committed to treating everybody equally and in doing so, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their football without fear of abuse and discrimination.
”Abuse and discrimination of any kind is intolerable and does not have any part to play either here at the
Moss Rose or when we travel around the country to contest away fixtures.
“On Saturday, the vast majority of our supporters respected this impeccably - as they always do.
“We were let down by a very small minority however, who acted in a manner which has been rightfully reported to us by Kick It Out.
“Clearly this saddens us greatly and we will be investigating these isolated incidents which unquestionably let our club down.
“Anyone found to be in breach of our Fan Behaviour Policy in this regard is liable to receive a ban from attending future games, as well as criminal proceedings should the offence be deemed to warrant it.”
