Scheme gives adults new skills
ADULTS with learning difficulties and additional needs have been developing new skills thanks to a charity’s training programme.
SUSO, on Old Park Lane, Macclesfield, runs free full and half day courses with the help of funding from Cheshire East Lifelong Learning.
There is a work skills course that covers the basics of employment, how it may impact on benefits and how to create a CV.
It is completed with a practical work placement with the idea of supporting people into a job.
The charity also runs life skills courses, which include personal safety and assertiveness and are aimed helping people become more independent.
Megan Possart, SUSO’s training and activities lead, said: “The training courses are designed to focus on a key learning element each session.
”But we also make sure that they are interactive and fun so that the learning is a positive experience, and the messages are remembered.”
SUSO, which aims to break down barriers for people with learning disabilities, began in 2005.
The training course will begin again through
March to June with a maximum of 10 people per class.
