PARKING PROBLEMS
RE the article on page 4 of Macclesfield Express dated February 26.
I also have been sent a parking charge notice for parking at Macclesfield Superbowl although I had entered my car registration number into the tablet at reception.
I had parked on evening of November 4 last year when attending a group outing to take part in a friendly 10 pin bowling competition and entered my car registration details on entry and this was witnessed by one of the other members of the group.
On receipt of the parking charge notice I sent a reply to UK
Parking Control Ltd stating that I had been a legitimate user of the Superbowl and sent a copy of two credit card transactions for payment of the bowling charge and purchase of drinks.
They replied to state that they had considered my appeal and the evidence submitted, but
considered that the parking charge had been correctly issued, but as a gesture of goodwill would reduce the charge to £15.
I still was not happy with this as I considered that as a genuine customer of Superbowl I should not be charged so
appealed to POPLA (Parking on Private Land Appeals).
It was only at this point when UKPC submitted their evidence to POPLA that it became clear that they accepted that I had been a user of the Superbowl, but that I was in breach of the parking
conditions clearly displayed around the site that parking was only free to users who entered their registration number on the portal at reception.
Eventually my appeal was rejected by POPLA as they said ‘the operator has provided machine
data to show that they did not register their vehicle registration on the day of the event’ and that I would now be liable to pay the full charge of £100.
