Sporting neighbours on marks to help appeal

- ALEX SCAPENS

THE Christie at Macclesfield campaign has received a boost from the organisers of a sporting challenge in a neighbouring town.

Organisers of the Wilmslow Triathlon, which is scheduled to take place on April 19, have joined forces with the Christie.

Every participant who signs up for the event will be offered a fundraising pack to support the appeal.

The triathlon, based at Wilmslow Leisure Centre, involves a 400m indoor pool swim, a 24.2km cycle route in the Cheshire countryside and a 6.3km run.

It is the biggest sprint triathlon in Greater Manchester and Cheshire, attracting around 400 participants each year as either individuals or teams.

Imogen Healing, sporting events coordinator at the Christie charity, said: “We are thrilled to be teaming up with the organisers of this year’s Wilmslow Triathlon.

“It’s a great event and very accessible to firsttimers or more experienced athletes.”

Adrian Fuller, one of the

Wilmslow Triathlon organisers, added: “We are very excited to team up with the Christie charity to support such a vital project that will make a huge difference.

“Almost

everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer and anything we can do to help those who are battling the disease and make their lives easier is very welcome.”

All finishers will receive a medal and free event photos available for downloading and printing.
