Plymouth show proved we’ll be fine: Kennedy M
ACCLESFIELD Town head coach Mark Kennedy feels that his side’s performance against Plymouth Argyle shows that they will be fine this season – despite losing the match 3-0.
The result means that Macc have failed to win any of their last nine games, but Kennedy has taken positives from the performance and feels his team have nothing to fear throughout the rest of the campaign.
“I thought we were outstanding. For anyone that wasn’t at the game, they will only see the scoreline,” he said.
“I am a very black and white guy, I don’t talk nonsense and I say it as it is. I am always incredibly supportive of the lads and I have a go at them at the right times.
“I thought we were magnificent, we were on the end of an unbelievably harsh result. We missed three one-on-ones, we had one cleared off the line, we played some outstanding football and I thought our game was brilliant.
“But I look at their second goal, I have to give them credit for their creativity and end product. It was outstanding. A couple of disappointments in a couple of their goals, but I thought the lads were top.
“I have said to the boys if that is the barometer of our performances, we will have no problems. Goals change games, it is something that has cost us this year. Not errors but catastrophic errors.
“I am disappointed with the scoreline, I don’t want to lose any game.
“But performances will eventually win you games. I said to them ‘you are going to be fine, you are a pleasure to work with’.
“I said after the last game that we’ve got real problems if we don’t create chances and I thought we created a lot against one of the best sides in the league. Nobody likes losing games, but Plymouth are an excellent side.
“I didn’t want to change any players because I thought the lads were excellent, but I didn’t want to concede any more so we had to change the formation.
“I would like to say thank you to all the fans that came, the result was really harsh on us because I believe we performed well. The chances that we created it was no fault of our own, we should have had at least three goals ourselves.
“We have great commitment between the players and the fans, and you also see the level of emotion after the game, most players don’t want to walk over to the fans after losing three nil, but they did, and they were excellent.
“I always knew that though when I was here 18 months ago, it’s what has drawn me into the club.”
