Macc hit with EFL misconduct charge

-

MACCLESFIELD Town have been dealt a blow ahead of this weekend’s match with Walsall after they were charged with misconduct by the English Football League for failing to pay their players on time.

In a statement, the EFL said: “Macclesfield Town has been issued with a further misconduct charge for failing to pay a number of players on the applicable payment dates due in February 2020.

“The club has therefore been referred to an independent Disciplinary Commission for failing to adhere to the terms of the players’ contracts. As this matter is now subject to proceedings, the EFL will be making no further comment at this time.”

It means there are further off the field problems for the Silkmen, ahead of them trying to end their poor run of form this weekend when they welcome Walsall to the Moss Rose.

The Silkmen are in 23rd position ahead of the game, having failed to win any of their last nine league matches. It puts them on 30 points, with seven wins, 15 draws and 15 defeats during the campaign so far.

Walsall are in 14th position, having had a recent revival in form that has seen them go unbeaten in their last five matches.

They were victorious in their last outing, earning a 3-1 win at home to Exeter City.

Two goals from Elijah Adebayo, along with a strike from Rory Holden were enough for the home side, despite a strike from Ryan Bowman for Exeter.

The two teams couldn’t be separated when they met in the reverse fixture earlier this season, having played out a 1-1 draw at the Bescot Stadium in December. Miles WelchHayes got the opener for Macc after eight minutes, but Wes McDonald equalised late on for a share of the spoils.
