Finley, 6, pedals his way to hospice cash
AYOUNGSTER is using pedal power to raise money in memory of his late grandmother.
Finley Royle, six, from Broken Cross, is aiming to cycle a total of 60 miles during lockdown in aid of East Cheshire Hospice.
He goes out every day covering around two miles for his allowed exercise alongside mum Michelle, 37.
Her mum Elaine England, who had leukaemia, passed away at the hospice in 2016 so the family have seen first hand just what good work it does.
Michelle, an oncology ward manager, said: “We record how far he goes every day, he’s doing really well.
“He loves riding his bike and he’s proper speedy, he started without stabilisers when he had just turned four.”
Sixty miles was chosen as the target because that was Elaine’s age when she passed away - and it is also 10 miles for each year of Finley’s life.
The Gawsworth Primary pupil was born with a clubfoot and he aims to complete his challenge by June 3, World Clubfoot Day.
Michelle, who used to work at Macclesfield Hospital but is now at Wythenshawe, said: “East Cheshire Hospice is amazing but it is one of the most underfunded in the country considering what they do.
“The hospice relies on community fundraisers and so many events have had to be cancelled.
“The hospice is not only important to us as a family for the care my mum received but also for their support that the patients I care for also receive.”
