Drive-in cinema screening
A DRIVE-IN cinema will be set up in Macclesfield to give outdoor viewing ‘for the first time in years’.
The event has been organised by Cinemac owner Jordan Wilson and will be held on Sunday, August 23.
It will take place at Macclesfield Rugby Club, on Priory Lane, from around midday to 10.30pm and show three films.
The evening showing will be Bohemian Rhapsody, the mid afternoon showing The Greatest Showman and early afternoon will be a children’s film yet to be confirmed.
The rugby club will be providing hot food and there will be a bar open for those who are not driving.
Jordan said: “We’re really excited to be bringing a drive-in cinema to Macclesfield for the first time in years.
”It’s a great way that families can enjoy a unique day out whilst enjoying a selection of films. If the event is successful we are planning to make it a regular event in the calendar.
”People can visit in their own social bubble with people they are comfortable with and don’t have to mingle. It is the best way to watch movies these days.”
Cinemac itself, on Roe Street in Macclesfield town centre, reopened on July 16 with a raft of additional anti-Covid safety measures.
There is reduced capacity and some seats taken out to allow for social distancing and allow people to leave the auditorium for a toilet break.
Hand sanitisers have been installed, payment is card only, face coverings are mandatory throughout, queueing is socially distanced and there are more intensive cleaning measures.
Customers cannot bring food or drink into the building and film times have been staggered so people arriving and leaving avoid each other.
Jordan said: “It has been quite quiet since we reopened as people are still concerned about coming into an enclosed environment.
”That is entirely understandable but we have a whole lot of safety precautions in place and done everything we can.
”We have even had a safety inspector come in to make sure we are up to scratch.”
