It’s a clean sweep for birthday boy Beau!

- ALEX SCAPENS

AYOUNG boy was swept off his feet by a birthday treat - a surprise visit from the street cleaning team.

Beau Powell, of Northgate Avenue, Macclesfield, is fascinated by the team’s work when they visit his street and wants to join them when he’s old enough to work.

And when plans for a fifth birthday party in the park with his friends were cancelled because of the Covid pandemic, his parents feared the special day may fall flat.

So mum Jenny, 32, contacted Cheshire East Council, who arranged for the clean team to call round instead.

She said: “Beau has wanted to be a street cleaner for a couple of years, he likes the brushes and anything mechanical.

“He was shocked when he opened the door. He loved the visit and it really made his day.

“I don’t think he’ll ever forget it.

“We had planned to have a party but it would have been impossible to do it safely, so his birthday could have been a bit miserable for him without this.”

The street cleaners arrived with two of their vehicles and demonstrated them to Beau, who also lives with dad Matt, 33, and attends Bollinbrook Primary.

They also gave hi him a goodie di bag with a hat, sweets, street cleaner toy and catalogue of cleaning products.

Jenny, who works as a children’s nurse at Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital, said: “The catalogue sounds a bit boring to me but bB Beau sat on the h sofa and looked through it.

“The team really went out of their way to make his day special, the team leader even came in his own car.

“It’ll be difficult to top that for his next birthday.”
