New haus marks 25 years of Styal!

STYAL Golf Club has enjoyed 25 years of excellent golf and hospitalit­y over the past 25 years since it came into existence.

With an excellent driving range, par three course and mature 18 hole course it has proved to be one of the most innovative clubs in the area and very proud of the way in which it has encouraged junior golf to have one of the strongest junior sections in the county and also helped beginners develop their golf to become good golfers.

Their latest project is the renovation of their clubhouse which has been newly cladded to give it a new look and increase seating externally and have soft furnishing inside.

Styal Director of Golf Glynn Traynor, who has been at the club since it was founded said: “The catering part of the club has been taken over by Chris Leigh, as leaseholde­r of food and beverage, who has 30 years experience in the hospitalit­y industry and we now have waitress service and fresh food is prepared daily.

“The new team have extended opening hours for both the restaurant and bar and quickly created a vibrant atmosphere at the club with the clubhouse rebranded as the Styal ‘Clubhaus’.

“Both members and visitors can now enjoy some excellent hospitalit­y as well as all the other special featured that we have at Styal.”

There has been plenty of action on the course at Styal with the Friday 9-hole Frolics won by Martin Anderson with 21 points, two more than Cole Brown and Gareth Moorhouse.

Next day saw the Saturday Stableford division one star being Steve James after a cpo on 38 points with Daniel Lynch.

Rob Cressey was out on his own in division two with 37 points, four more than Pete Harris and Joe Bradshaw.

The Sunday Stableford was won by Pierre Ravailhe after a cpo on 38 points with Chris Gibson.

Trevor Millen won a Yellow Tee Seniors Stableford with 34 points closely followed on 33 by Bruce Cochrane, Ted Marsden, Graham Swann and Ian Mills.

Matthew Richardson went clickety click to win the Wednesday medal at Styal from Anton Bardsley and Darren Lamb, both 68.

A ladies Stableford at Styal was won by Lynsey Forsythe with 32 points from Jenny Merren 30 and Pat Chadwick 29 with the 9-hole star being Nina Maund with 17.

A seniors Stableford at Avro had Leslie Fowler out on his own with 34 points, six more than Peter Gudgeon and Steve Yule.

Fowler also took the first 9-hole prize posting 17 points, two more than Steve Yule, Peter Gudgeon and John Wetherell.

The Captain’s Prize to Alderley Edge ladies was won at a canter by Lisa Burns with 39 points from Olivia Brewster 34 and Karen Pennington 33.

A Mixed 9-hole Stableford at Alderley was won by Paul Finney with 18 points four more than

Olwen Davies.

The profession­al’s prize for Edge’s men was won by Paul Penney after a cpo on 40 points with Paul Finney, one more than Andrew Boyle.

Edge’s seniors played a singles Stableford and Alan Adams led in with 31 points, two more than A Sutton, Gerrard Appleton and David Read.

Davenport’s men were in Stableford mode and Jake Darlington posted 38 points to lead in from Louis McCumesky and Chris Evans, both 37.

and qualifier and the divisions were led in by Jane Hall 71, Susan Hudson 66 and Kathleen Grindey 78. The 9-hole Stableford was won by Marion Farrington with 13 points, one more than Rosemary Hulme and Susan Fitzpatric­k.

A Midweek Stableford at Mottram Hall had Martin Firth in charge with 40 points from David Owen 39 and Shaun Gatley 38.

The Captain’s Charity Stableford for Prestbury’s men had the divisions won by Ken Williamson 41 points, Russell Gardner after a cpo on 37 with Martin Jackson, Simon Pooler and Stephen Schofield and Stuart Simmons 38.

Prestbury ladies played a two-division Stableford and in division one a cpo on 34 was won by Amy Anson from Cheshire legend Carole Ryder, one more than Ellen Cail, Michelle Pretty and Myra Penkethman.

Kate Wardle won division two with a fine haul of 41 points and the 9-hole winner was Barbara Newport with 18.

In a close finish at Shrigley Hall their Thursday Stableford was won by Neil Woodward after a cpo on 39 points with Dave Hancox, one more than Adam Downing and Richard Burrow.

It was even closer in the Midsummer Cup at Shrigley with four players locked on 40 points.

Getting the nod in the cpo was Smee Raja from Richard Burrow, Mark Edwards and Chloe Powell.
