BIG PICTURE
scale, or in bite size chunks as in this example.
Out of control also, are the changing climate and the Covid-19 disease.
Clearly, it is not just Donald Trump who fails to make the connection.
In the nineteenth century, when the writing was on the wall for the Sioux Nation, their chief, White Cloud, is accredited with having used the following words:
“When the last buffalo has been shot, and the last tree has been felled, you will find that you cannot eat dollar bills.”
We all need to think on it well.

FIRST CLASS VACCINE TEAM
MAY I through your column express my sincere thanks to all involved in administering the Covid vaccine at Waters Green Medical Centre on Friday, January 8.
The organisation of the whole process was first-class, the vaccination carried out with the minimum of fuss and the volunteers did an excellent job in marshalling and directing us to the right practice.
Well done to all - medics and non-medics alike.

STAFF WERE SO FRIENDLY
I WOULD like to thank all the medical staff and stewards at Poynton Civic Hall for the smooth rollout of the Covid vaccines.
Everybody was so friendly.
This is the NHS at its best.
Thank you so much. Dermot O’Connor, Church Street Bollington
FRESH LOOK AT WILDLIFE
AN INTERESTING piece in a national newspaper draws attention to ‘Welcome to nature 2.0 for a new generation of Ladybird readers’ about four slim volumes on the natural world, aimed at children.
Their instant success inspired a whole generation of naturalists.
Now, 60 years later, a new series is being published, wanting to pay homage to our heritage by re-issuing them.
Each season was entitled ‘What to Look For in ...’ and Charles Tunnicliffe, renowned Macclesfield wildlife artist, depicted rural tableaux complete with people and wildlife.
Local landscape views were easily recognised.
The article says: “The books were made for outdoors expeditions and the accurate images had an impact on a child’s knowledge of the natural world.”
The new series is expected to create interest as it highlights some of the losses of species since the late
50s and early 60s and the introduction of new ones not seen before.
Local people may be interested to get their treasured (and valuable) sets of ‘What to Look For...’ out, to compare.
Macclesfield Museums, hopefully open again soon, has many outstanding examples of Tunnicliffe’s works and a delightful display on the main staircase at the Silk Museum in Park Lane. Olive Ambrose, via email
IT’S more important than ever to play our part and abide by the lockdown rules.
This is how we can help contain the fast-spreading, new variant of coronavirus and protect the NHS. The rollout of the vaccine locally is welcome news, but that shouldn’t make any of us complacent.
The rules are clear for the weeks ahead: stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.
The new variant is putting greater pressure on the NHS than at any other time since the start of the pandemic.
I spoke recently to the chief executive of East Cheshire NHS Trust about the situation at
Macclesfield Hospital and passed on my thanks, and those of local residents, for the continued courageous work of our local doctors, nurses, ambulance teams and other NHS staff during the pandemic.
We salute the tremendous work they and other key workers are doing to keep us safe.
The vaccination rollout gives us greater hope. I am in regular contact with
NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group about the local programme.
GP-led Covid-19 vaccination services have started to vaccinate across Cheshire, including in Macclesfield and Poynton. Vaccinations started at Macclesfield Hospital on January 6. It was good to see that Andrews
Pharmacy in Macclesfield was one of the first pharmacies in the country to deliver the vaccine.
As we move forward, the approval of the OxfordAstraZeneca vaccine, a more versatile vaccine, will enable the pace of vaccination to accelerate and help ensure that the majority of care home staff and residents are protected in the coming weeks.
I am very proud of the achievements of all those who work for AstraZeneca who have helped develop the new vaccine and are involved in rollout plans.
Together, we will beat coronavirus. We can – and must - go on playing our part.
