People to get say on park revamp

- ALEX SCAPENS

RESIDENTS can have their say on plans to transform a park with a community orchard, bike track and improved play area.

Draft proposals have been drawn up for Banbury Close open space, in Hurdsfield, by Cheshire East Council.

They also include picnic areas, insect hotel, bulb planting, new trees and nesting boxes for birds, bats and hedgehogs.

Details of the plans have now been released and people have until March 16 to take part in the consultation.

Councillor Laura Crane, cabinet member for highways, said: “This draft masterplan is just the starting point for our plans for the park.

“We want it to be an area where people can not only spend time and enjoy the facilities on offer but can have a real impact on its development by getting actively involved in community gardening.

“We have put forward a number of ideas but we welcome any suggestions or ideas as to how they see their park being developed.

“Working with the community and other partners, we hope to be able to turn as many ideas as possible into reality.”

Macclesfield Town Council has provided funding towards the project.

Plans can be viewed on the noticeboard at Holy Trinity Church and in the window at Hurdsfield Library as well as at cheshireeast.gov.uk/parks.

Mayor of Macclesfield Sarah Bennett-Wake said: “The plans seem to include something for everyone - including mother nature.

“However, it’s your park, your community space.

“Please make the most of it by contributing to the consultation and having your say.” Residents can give their views by emailing parks@ansa.co.uk.
