A busy entrance that could tip you into danger zone
ANYONE who has ever submitted plans to Cheshire East proposing a change to the driveway of their home will know how rigorously the site is checked out by CEC planners.
I tried, on two occasions, to move my own access a couple of metres.
Despite being on a minor road with relatively low traffic-flow permission was refused as it was deemed ‘ too dangerous’.
I assumed the planners knew something I didn’t and accepted their decision.
Since then I have questioned my own judgment in accepting it.
Not long after Tesco obtained permission to open a Tesco Express in Congleton on West Road next to one of the busiest roundabouts in Cheshire.
Given they already had a superstore less than a mile away it seemed a pretty odd decision.
Now, if you drive past the Household Waste Recycling Centre or tip (CEC Rule: never use a short word when you can employ four long-ones) on Congleton Road at weekend you, my friend, are taking your life in your hands.
Quite who would choose the crest of a hill on a major trunk road opposite a busy pub as the main entrance for anything let alone an extremely busy recycling centre is beyond imagination.
Yes, I know the tip has been there for many years but so has the hill.
Whenever that decision was made it was wrong.
So…if you absolutely must use the A536 at weekend you will find an enormous queue of traffic stretching back from the entrance of the tip
If you are driving from Congleton to Macclesfield you won’t know anything about it until you hit the crest of the hill when you are likely to meet a vehicle pulling out of the queuing traffic and coming right at you.
There could be 50 vehicles in that queue and not all are going to the tip.
At some point one or two will pull out and hope they can make it past the tip entrance before they meet anything travelling in the opposite direction.
