Get a kick out of helping the blind

-

AN ONLINE football challenge has been set up to raise funds for people affected by sight loss.

East Cheshire Eye Society, based on Macclesfield Market Place, has created the competition in the wake of England being gripped by the delayed Euro 2020.

The #skillsforsightloss challenge gives people, teams and businesses five seconds to show off their best football skill and nominate another five to join in and make a donation.

Alan Chappell, charity manager, said: “We wanted to set this challenge partly to share the excitement and pride of the England, Wales and Scotland teams at the Euros by encouraging people to show us their own football skills, and partly to raise awareness of the work of our charity.

“We often support people with a visual impairment to take part in and enjoy sporting activities, and we hope to include football in that in the near future, so this seemed like the perfect challenge at the right time.“

The charity is run by a board of voluntary trustees, some of whom have a sight impairment themselves. Their purpose is to help people affected by sight loss to lead fulfilling lives at work, at home and in the community.

For the challenge there are four simple steps:

1 Record five seconds of your best football trick.

2 Post the video on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #skillsforsightloss.

3 Donate £5 to East Cheshire Eye Society.

4 Nominate five other people.
