CHESHIRE EDGED OUT
REDDISH Vale provided a stunning setting on their historic Mackenzie layout for the match between Cheshire and Lancashire Boys.
The morning foursomes were a tight contest with Cheshire enjoying wins from Sam Hall (Styal) and Jack McCrindle (Royal Liverpool) by one hole, and Niall Curwen (Bramall Park) and Adam Carr (Sale) by two holes while Cameron Walker (Caldy) and Charlie Hayton (Delamere Forest) halved their match to see Lancashire finish a slender point ahead.
Cheshire began the afternoon singles well with early wins from Matthew Dodd-Berry (Royal Liverpool) 4/2 and Sam Hall 5/4 plus a half from Sam Johnson (Astbury).
But Lancashire came back strongly with three wins to regain control before Cheshire finished well with a win for Sonny Lewis (Delamere Forest ) 6/5 and halves from Ben Currie (Withington), Jack
McKie (Eaton) and Cameron Walker but
Lancashire held on to lead the singles by 7-5 and take the match by 10.57.5.
It was a great day for junior golf and they were deservedly congratulated, along with all at Reddish Vale, by Cheshire President David Durling (Shrigley Hall).
A 9-HOLE Stableford for Avro ladies needed a cpo on 16 points to see Sandra Maguire home from Sylvia Critchlow, one more than Pat Donohue.
The Tom McKenzie Trophy for Avro’s men had a proud winner in Derek Jones with 40 points, one more than Tim Bochenski and Karl Needham.
Chris Hynes was in a league of his own in a Midweek Stableford at Avro posting 41 points, five more than Chris Robinson and Steve Callaghan.
A 9-HOLE Stableford at Alderley Edge was won by Roger Smith with 17 points, one more than Steve Bennett and Sue Freeman.
Edge’s ladies played the
Ping Prize BB Stableford and top of the shop with 43 points were A Roberts and G Holt from D Law and W Dent 41.
A Midweek medal at Davenport was won by Jon Lloyd after a cpo on 66 with Start Johnston, two less than Steve Sewell and Edward Bailey.
Davenport ladies played their fifth EG medal and top of division one was Danuta Silva with 69 from Christine Thwaites 72 and Gillian Garbett 73. Division Two was led in by Pauline Hague 69 with Sheila Elliott top of division three with 73.
A SINGLES Stableford at Mottram Hall had Justin Gardner winning a cpo on 39 points from Sean Smith in Division One.
Ian Cook romped home in Division Two with 45 points, three more than Glyn Jackson.
IT was Captain’s Day at Prestbury and Paul Wardle led in with 70 from Murray Cuthbert 71 and Kevin Harling, Ken Williamson, Charles Cunningham and Austin
McBride, all 72.
It was neck and neck in the Prestbury ladies Open BB Team Stableford with four teams locked on 77 points, getting the nod in the cpo were M Hobson, J Kerrigan and S Edgley with P Hodkinson, J Hart and D Massey next in.
IT was also very tight at Shrigley Hall in the Pairs Trophy with M Hehir and A Hunt winning the cpo on 45 points from A Downing and P Eccles and S Marsh and D Whittaker.
Styal seniors were in white tee medal action and David Woodgate was the main man with 67 from David Murray 68 and Geoff Beardsall led in clutch on 69.
The Friday Frolics at Styal had Donna O’Reilly winning a cpo on 20 points from Thomas Woolley.
Next day Hilton Alexander was out on his own in the Professional’s Cup with a sweet 64 taking him home from Michael Hinkin 68 and Keith Dawson and Matthew Richardson, both 70.
A ladies Stableford at
Styal was won by Pam Higgins with 37 points, one more than Helen Billington and Bronwyn Parker.
A STABLEFORD for Macclesfield’s men was won by David Blakey after a cpo on 41 points with Matthew Hodgson and Thomas Hollingworth. one more than Jack Dougan, Robert Mckeith and Paul Tovee.
Macc juniors played two rounds for the Luke
Stevens Trophy and Harry Clements won round one with 67 from Daisy Ward 72. In round two Jack Leon was unstoppable with a scorching 61.
Every year each club in the Manchester and District Ladies Association (over 90 member clubs) holds a competition to decide who represents their club in the Bunty Booth final in the following year.
This year’s final was held at Hazel Grove GC, who were superb hosts both on and off the course on a busy day.
The winners were presented with their prizes by the MDLGA President Sue Milroy (Wilmslow Golf Club), and in a close contest Lynda Daly (Worsley GC) won a cpo on 39 points from Glynis Jones (Werneth). One more than Sue Maybury (Westhoughton) and Marion Page (Davenport).
